T20 Blast: All-round Imad Wasim stars for Nottinghamshire in tight win over Durham

Imad Wasim made an important contribution lower down the order and chipped in with a couple of wickets and run-outs to ensure Nottinghamshire finished the first round firmly on top of the North Group.

The Pakistan international had walked out to bat with his team in a precarious spot at 92-5, reeling from the loss of the well-set duo Ben Duckett and Tom Moores on successive deliveries.

Imad then tactfully bided his time in the middle and was involved in valuable stands with skipper Dan Christian and Steven Mullaney, helping the Notts post 150-6 in their 20 overs.

While Imad's unbeaten 26 was marked by minimal risk, he also struck two maximums during his stay at the crease in a bid to up the ante in the death overs.

Durham's blazing start was dented by a flurry of wickets in Imad's first over of the day – two dismissals for the bowler and a run-out.

Ben Raine was the first to go in the dramatic over when he hit the left-arm off-spinner straight to Alex Hales stationed at mid-off. Alex Lees, the main aggressor in the Powerplay, was smartly stumped by Moores to bring an end to his 15-ball 28.

The last ball of the over produced a horrific mix-up that eventually ended in the demise of David Bedingham for a single run.

Durham failed to see any effective rebuilding job as all of their efforts were broken up by attacking bowling and athletic fielding from Nottinghamshire. Imad inflicted another run-out in the 13th over to cap off a profitable outing for him.

Late fireworks from Liam Trevaskis revived hopes for the chasing side as he smashed two sixes and a boundary in his brief blitz but he was deprived of a decent supporting act from the other end.

Jake Ball took the last two wickets to knock Durham out of the tournament and seal an 18-run win for Nottinghamshire.
