Asad Shafiq’s 49-ball 72 and Anwar Ali’s 4/30 gave Karachi Whites their first points of the National T20 Cup Friday as the Sarfraz Ahmed-led side defeated Umar Amin-led Rawalpindi by 14 runs in the 14th match of the eight-team tournament.
After being put in to bat, Karachi lost their opener Khurram Manzoor in the second over but Shafiq made sure that his side put a defensible 178 for 6. Though he failed to get the support from the other end until Sarfraz walked out to bat in the 13th over, Shafiq anchored Karachi’s innings. The two batsmen struck a 62-run stand for the fifth-wicket before Shafiq, who struck nine 4s and a gigantic 6, fell in the penultimate over.
In their chase, Rawalpindi never threatened Karachi as Rumman Raees and Ali struck regularly with the latter picking up the crucial wickets of Umar Amin, Fawad Alam, and Ramiz Aziz.
