Asad Shafiq fined for showing dissent at umpire's decision

Senior batsman Asad Shafiq has been fined 20% match fee for breaching the PCB code of conduct.

Shafiq was given out lbw in the 15th over of Sindh's second innings against Northern during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy clash at Karachi's UBL Sports Complex.

However, the veteran player took issue with the umpire's ruling and verbally questioned him as he indicated the ball had clipped his bat before brushing the pad.

Sindh eventually lost the encounter by 128 runs despite Saud Shakeel starring with a terrific 174 off 296 deliveries.

Shafiq's animated reaction to his dismissal was found to violate Article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The Level 1 offence relating to showing dissent at an umpire's decision was reported by on-field umpires Faisal Afridi and Saqib Khan at the end of the third day's play.

Shafiq did not request for a formal hearing and accepted the sanction imposed on him by match referee Mohammad Anees.

Sindh teammate and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was also fined for a disciplinary violation in the game when he "repeatedly used inappropriate language" in the direction of the umpire.

Shafiq has made only one half-century across six innings in the domestic first-class tournament. His place in Pakistan's Test side is also under scrutiny as he fared poorly in the tour of England earlier this summer.
