Lahore Whites defeated Peshawar by 27 runs in the 21st match of the ongoing National T20 Cup thanks to Salman Butt and Umaid Asif.
Lahore’s captain Butt starred with an unbeaten 58-ball 85 after he elected to bat first. The left-handed batsman partnered with Kamran Akmal, who couldn’t keep stumps for Lahore after taking a blow on his foot off Sohail Khan’s bowling, for an 85-run opening stand which lasted for almost 11 overs.
The three batsmen to bat under the opening pair – Umar Akmal, Aamer Yamin, and Umaid Asif, failed to go into the double figures. However, Butt ensured that his side set a defensible 164-run total.
In their reply, Peshawar never posed a threat to Lahore. Asif Ali struck in the second over to remove Rifatullah Mohmand and that sparked a collapse. Peshawar were rolled out for 136 with three balls to spare.
Right-arm medium-fast Umaid Asif, who shared the man-of-the-match award with his skipper, returned 4/26 in 4 overs that settled the game in Lahore’s favour.
