Pakistan came second-best to New Zealand in the most stirring manner after coming agonisingly close to earning a draw in the first Test of the two-match series. Just 27 balls away separated Pakistan from a spectacular draw when tail-ender Naseem Shah was caught and bowled by Mitchell Santner to seal a 101-run win for the home side.
After several days of sheer dominance, New Zealand met their match in a regal partnership between Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan on the fifth day. Fawad defied all odds to register just his second Test century and his first after being dropped from the team for almost a decade.
