Moeen Ali has tested positive for the novel coronavirus after the England team's arrival in Sri Lanka ahead of the two-Test series.
The results of the PCR tests administered on the arrival of the touring party in at the airport in Hambantota came back on Monday.
Moeen will be obligated to observe a 10-day isolation period in line with the Sri Lanka Government's health protocols.
The length of quarantine puts him out of contention for a spot in the side for the series opener due to commence on January 14. Moeen's long wait for a Test return stretches since he made his last red-ball appearance for England back in the 2019 Ashes in England.
Additionally, Chris Woakes has been isolated from the squad and will undergo further testing after being deemed as a possible close contact of the infected Moeen.
England will have another round of testing on Tuesday before being allowed to train on Wednesday.
