PSL 2021: Alex Hales traded to United, Colin Ingram to Kings; Zalmi release Hasan Ali

Incumbent champions Karachi Kings have traded Alex Hales with Islamabad United's Colin Ingram ahead of the Pakistan Super League 2021 Player Draft set to be held on Sunday afternoon.

Ingram's return to Kings ends his one-season stint with last year's bottom-dwellers United as he has previously represented the Karachi franchise.

The sole trade before the showpiece 20-over event will now see Karachi take Islamabad's pick in the first round of the Diamond category drafting whereas United will get their single Diamond pick in the second round.

Five sides out of six have opted to utilise the limit of eight retentions with Peshawar Zalmi choosing to retain only six players as they aim for a squad overhaul in the players draft.

Besides Ingram and Hales, the other foreign players retained by the PSL teams include Ben Dunk, David Wiese (both Lahore Qalandars), Imran Tahir, James Vince, Rilee Rossouw (all three from Multan Sultans), Liam Livingstone (Peshawar Zalmi) and Ben Cutting (Quetta Gladiators).

The notable releases made in the pre-draft process are Peshawar Zalmi parting ways with Hasan Ali and Lahore Qalandars not continuing with Chris Lynn.

Hasan, who was recently declared player of the tournament in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, rose to prominence through his heroics in the PSL with Zalmi after being picked in the emerging category in the inaugural edition. He later finished as the leading wicket-taker in PSL 2019, earning the prize for the best bowler of the tournament.

However, Hasan was overcome by a lack of form during PSL 2020 and was unable to replicate his quality performances for Zalmi.

Meanwhile, Lynn's explosive century against Multan Sultans in March 2020 propelled Lahore Qalandars to the playoffs but his compatriot Dunk and South African all-rounder Wiese have been preferred as the foreign retentions.
