A 32-ball 53 by Kerala Kings captain Eoin Morgan secured a final berth for his side after it defeated Maratha Arabians by five wickets in the first semi-final of the inaugural T10 League.
Electing to field first, Kerala dominated the first part of the Maratha innings as it sent half of opposition’s batting line-up back in the pavilion inside the powerplay overs for just 29 runs with Sohail Tanvir and Liam Plunkett picking up two wickets each in their first overs.
However, a brilliant fightback, led by Dwayne Bravo (27 off 19) and Imad Wasim (18 off 8), saw Maratha post 97/9 in 10 overs.
Kerala’s chase got off in style with Chadwick Walton smoking Imad for a four and two sixes in the first four balls before he was bowled on the fifth ball of the innings.
A 77-run stand for the second-wicket between Paul Stirling and Morgan put Maratha on their way to the final. Back-to-back wickets of Kieron Pollard and Shakib ul Hasan in the penultimate over spiced up the match a little when Maratha were only four runs away from the victory, however, they scored the winnings runs comfortably on the first ball of the final over.
