It is no secret that Pakistan and Afghanistan share a close link when it comes to cricket. This commonality between the two countries is further evidenced by leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan citing star all-rounder Shahid Afridi as his role model while growing up.
Influenced by the charisma of cricket’s greatest entertainer, the Afghan prodigy expressed adoration for Afridi’s no-holds-barred attitude.
“I was a huge fan of Shahid Afridi growing up. He was from the tribal area that stretches across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. I watched him, studied him. I loved his enthusiasm, the way he attacked the batsman. I knew that had to be my attitude if I wanted to be successful,” he said.
Talking about his unique quick-arm action, the 19-year-old added, “My bowling action is totally different to other leg-spinners. They’ve told me that themselves. But the thing I’ve learned from watching great bowlers is that you’ve got to be calm and relaxed if you want to get results.”
