Pakistan was unable to carry their winning streak into the ODI series as New Zealand continued their supremacy in ODIs by winning the the first of the three-match ODI series. Chasing a competitive total of 267, Pakistan’s batting effort proved to be a disappointing show where they fell short by 47 runs.
Making a comeback after the finger injury, opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq never looked to be out of the game as he continued to make his bat talk. The Lahore born batsman, unfortunately, wasn’t able to continue his knock and was dismissed for 34 runs.
While he wasn’t able to translate his innings into a substantial knock, he did provide a relief when Pakistan lost three wickets in a jiffy as Trent Boult recorded an ODI hat-trick. The 22-year old batsman got out while pulling a short and pacy delivery of Lockie Ferguson.
