New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 47 runs in the first One-day International (ODI) in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Ross Taylor top-scored with 80 off 112 balls and Tom Latham struck 68 off 64 balls to lead the side to 266 for 9. Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan took four wickets each.
In reply, Pakistan got off to a bad start as they lost their three wickets in 2.4 overs. The middle-order batsmen showed some resistance to the opponents’ bowlers but failed to achieve the target. They dismissed at 219 in 47.2 overs. Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets each. Trent Boult was named player of the match.
