The day of 9th November was always observed as a holiday across Pakistan to commemorate the heroics of the legendary poet and philosopher of Pakistan Muhammad Iqbal who was born on the said day. However, the holiday has been dismissed in recent years with current government continuing the trend.
Pakistan’s star all-rounder Shahid Afridi had no hesitation in backing the move of the Interior Ministry of Pakistan to not observe a holiday on this memorable day.
Voicing his opinion, the 38-year old cricketer feels that educational institutes of the country must not be closed. Instead, the youth of Pakistan should be enlightened about the iconic figure of Pakistan. As per Pakistan’s former captain, celebrating and acknowledging the services of Pakistan’s greatest poet is the best possible tribute to Muhammad Iqbal.
