England’s off-spinner, Moeen Ali led the way with four wickets as England raced to a 211-run four-day win over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle. Joe Root's side had gone winless in overseas Tests since beating Bangladesh in October 2016, a winless sequence of 14 matches.
Moeen picked up eight wickets in the match which are now his best match figures away from home. The off-spinner also completed 150 Test scalps to his name, becoming only the eighth England spinner to achieve this milestone.
Moeen had a terrible match with the bat but his bowling has been exceptional with Sri Lanka struggling to negotiate his spin threat. The second match of the three-Test series is in Kandy, starting on November 14, before the final contest in Colombo commences on November 23.
