With the Test series already decided in South Africa’s favor despite a game remaining, the focus has now shifted towards the upcoming ODI series. Pakistan hasn’t had the best of time in 50-over format in recent times with their horrific Asia Cup performance and drawn series against New Zealand in UAE still reigning fresh.
The batsmen will have to pull their socks up if they have any hope of scoring big against the potent Proteas pace attack. Pakistan will be looking back at their last limited-overs tour to South Africa when they won 2-1 under Misbah-ul-Haq’s captaincy.
Both the sides will be hoping to make gains in the ICC ODI team rankings, hence willing to emerge triumphant in the series. Pakistan’s only hope of being promoted to the no.4 is if they whitewash South Africa 5-0, which is certainly a tough ask. On the other hand, if Pakistan loses by a margin of 4-1 or 5-0, they will be demoted to no.6 spot in the rankings.
