Ace left-arm pacer Junaid Khan has seemingly fallen out of favor with the Pakistan selection committee as he was axed from the ODI squad announced for the series against South Africa. A consistent contributor for the team, Junaid’s exclusion has caused much confusion and upset the fans.
The 29-year-old was kept in the series against New Zealand, where he managed to play only a game before being dropped in favor of Usman Shinwari. The reason given for Junaid’s non-selection has been cited as his fitness issues, which is impacting his overall performances.
Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has explained that the pacer needs to work harder on his bowling in order to retain a spot in the side. While he played all matches of the National T20 Cup for his team, it is in the longer format that Junaid’s fitness issues come into play.
