Hard-hitting batsman Asif Ali has surprisingly been dropped from Pakistan’s ODI squad that will take on South Africa for the upcoming 5-match series. This decision has instantly received backlash as pundits are pointing out the dearth of power-hitters in the Pakistani batting lineup.
Taking note of this contentious decision, former skipper Ramiz Raja has also lashed out at the selection committee headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq.
The 56-year-old pointed out Asif’s recent stint in the Mzansi Super League (MSL) in South Africa which could have already equipped him with the requisite skills to cope with the tough Proteas conditions.
Although Asif scored a fifty on debut in the MSL, he failed to follow it up with impressive scores, which could have been taken into account as the logic behind his exclusion. Nevertheless, Ramiz believes that Asif has the ability to be a game-changer with the bat and should definitely have been in the side.
