Former Australian skipper Steve Smith who opted to play the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to be in good batting form at the end of his suspension period has to cut short his stint after an elbow injury forced him to leave his team Comilla Victorians in the middle of the tournament.
This came as a massive blow to the Comilla side as Smith was playing as the captain of the franchise. The Australian prodigy failed to make an impact so far in the tournament as he scored only 13 runs in the two games including a duck against Rangpur Riders.
Coach of the Victorians, Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed Smith’s injury as he revealed that the 29-year old cricketer has been advised to return home immediately by the Australian physicians. However, he expects Smith to join the squad back after recovering from the injury.
The Sydney born player, after the conclusion of BPL, will make his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut for Multan Sultans.
