Just before the start of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans have been jolted by a big blow as their star acquisition, Steve Smith has been ruled out from the fourth season of PSL due to an elbow injury. Smith got his elbow injury during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in which he was representing Comilla Victorians.
Cricket Australia revealed Smith is set to undergo surgery on January 15 and is expected to be in a brace for around six weeks, followed by a period of rehabilitation. The HBL PSL 2019 will be held from 14 February to 17 March and Smith is not expected to regain full fitness in this period.
The star Aussie player was left disappointed to miss out an opportunity to feature in the PSL for the first time as he was very much looking forward to it.
“I am disappointed I won’t be able to play in HBL PSL but I wish Multan Sultans all the best for this year’s tournament. I was looking forward to playing the tournament and helping the team try to win the trophy. We have a talented team and I am confident that they will do very well,” said Steve Smith.

Multan Sultans will now seek a replacement for Smith at the Replacement Draft later this month.
