Afghanistan are a completely changed side from the one that competed in their first World Cup appearance in 2015. Acquiring Test status during these 4 years, and climbing to great heights of success, the Afghan team clearly poses a lot more threat of causing a few upsets in this WC.
The team is no longer compliant on settling on merely participation in the mega-tournament, and is actually looking to create history this time around. This ambitious sentiment was echoed by Afghan batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi who warned oppositions of taking Afghanistan lightly at their own peril.
“Now, it’s not like it was before. In 2015, people said it’s a proud moment that Afghanistan are a part of the World Cup. It’s not the time for that. Now, it’s time to say this to everyone else: ‘Wake up, Afghanistan are coming!’” Shahidi exclaimed.
