There were a lot of quality and talented players unearthed in the recently concluded edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
However, the majority of them were fast bowlers or spinners but Pakistan’s management was in the mood of getting some young batters ready for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.
In order to try their full bench strength, the selection committee finally rested some of the main players and consistent performers of domestic cricket were given a chance in the 5 match ODI series against Australia.
Saad Ali & Abid Ali were the two batsmen who were very highly rated by the cricketing fraternity in Pakistan.
Both of them made their debut in the last match against Australia. Abid Ali’s batting position in the domestic cricket helped him as Imam-ul-Haq was down with a high fever just before the match and Abid was given his ODI cap and was asked to open the innings.
The youngster grabbed the opportunity with both hands and he became only the 3rd Pakistani batsman to score an ODI hundred on debut after Saleem Elahi & Imam-ul-Haq.
Abid’s innings was full of classic and elegant stroke play. Abid scored 112 off 117 balls but the debutant couldn’t take Pakistan home as the visitors won the match by 4 runs at the end.
