Pakistan team finally looked to capture the winning track as Imad Wasim was hopeful to register a victory in his debut game as the skipper of the side. However, absence of power hitters dented the national team yet again.
Winning the toss, the green shirts invited the Kangaroos to bat first. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s belligerence lifted Australia to a competitive score of 277 which was almost chased by the efforts of centurions Abid Ali and Mohammad Rizwan.
Opening batsman Abid Ali was finally rewarded for his domestic cricket exploits as Imam-ul-Haq sat out of the fourth ODI due to fever. The 31-year grabbed the opportunity with both hands as the skillful cricketer registered the highest ODI score on debut by a Pakistan player. Doing so, he also became the only third Pakistan batsman to smash a ton on ODI debut.
The classy knock of the Lahore born cricketer consisted of 112 runs where he was witnessed producing 9 delightful boundaries. Abid was applauded massively by everyone as scoring under lights in United Arab Emirates (UAE) has never been easy. However, he was gutted to end up on the losing side as Maxwell flew away with the player of the match award.
