In the opening game of the Pakistan Cup, Balochistan registered an impressive outing against Punjab as the side representing the biggest province of Pakistan triumphed by 6 wickets. Winning the toss, Punjab batted first where the lower order rescued the team to lift them to 294.
In reply, Balochistan delivered a strong batting performance on a track where batting was easy. While the team was dented with three quick wickets, the batting contributions from Awais Zia and Umar Akmal helped the unit subdue Punjab.
One of the major talking points of the game was the List-A debut of exuberant paceman Haris Rauf who earned fame through the recently concluded season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Bowling on a flat deck, the Rawalpindi born cricketer showed great maturity to end up with bowling figures of 10-1-48-2.
While all other bowlers were smashed, the 25-year old kept his cool as he picked 2 crucial wickets. Firstly, he uprooted the dangerous Kamran Akmal and then came back to dismiss Kashif Bhatti when the bowling department was in pressure. The proficient cricketer is off to a fine start as he aims to shatter many bowling records.
