Asghar Afghan has been unceremoniously removed as captain of the Afghanistan cricket team, in what has been largely regarded as a shocking decision. Asghar’s prevailing influence in the Afghanistan side has been one of the main factors in lifting the team to where they currently stand in world cricket.
Easily, he is the most successful captain in Afghanistan cricket in its short history. A genuine leader who knows how to extricate the best out of his team, Asghar led Afghanistan to 31 wins in ODI cricket, and register a whopping 37 victories in 46 T20Is.
He also recently led Afghanistan to a historic Test win over Ireland. Probably the 31-year-old’s most remarkable feat was during the ICC World Cup Qualifiers last year, when he played on and captained his team to glory despite searing pain in the appendix and advised rest by the doctors.
