The recent no ball controversy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has started a new debate regarding the use of technology and human resource in keeping the game in check as many have called for checking of front foot on every ball.
According to research, almost 26% of the no ball decisions taken by the umpires get reversed on being challenged by the opposing team every year. In order to solve this problem, Pakistani startup Noerric has developed a device which would help the umpires in detecting no balls and avoid unfair calls.
‘Wicktron’ would use wireless signals to alert the umpires regarding over-stepping through the use of blinking LEDs, 3D cameras, and an integrated smart watch.
The startup is aiming to extend the range of functions of Wicktron in order to make the job of umpires much easier and more convenient during night as well.
