Pakistan has received humiliating thumping at the hands of Australia in the ODI series. The home side was second-best in every department as the visitors claimed the series with an impressive 5-0 whitewash.
Pakistan’s captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was rested for the ODI series against Australia but is nevertheless happy that his team is going into the tournament as not favourites but rather as an underdog. The skipper is happy with the pool of players he has and assured that whatever the outcome will be, the team will give their best during the tournament.
“We have got ample time before the World Cup, the players who were dropped are an automatic selection for the cricketing event. We are looking to get the right team combination during our five-match series against England in England,” he said.
The Champions Trophy-winning captain believes that taking early wickets with the new ball will be crucial for Pakistan as they cannot put the opposition on the back-foot without taking their top-order out cheaply.
“We have to strike with the new ball, if we do not strike early in the inning, it does not matter how much we score, it will not be a safe total,” Sarfaraz Ahmed added.
