Just before the upcoming edition of the World Cup, the explosive middle-order batsman Umar Akmal is showing great batting form. Thumping Punjab with a century, the belligerent striker carried his good run to decimate Sindh.
However, Pakistan has already named 23 probables for the mega-event and the name of Umar Akmal is nowhere to be found. The Lahore born cricketer was given an opportunity against Australia but he failed to impress the selectors. On top of that, the Quetta Gladiators batsman was fined for breaking the team curfew.
Since the last World Cup, the proficient cricketer featured in 10 ODIs for Pakistan. Playing all those encounters against a quality side like Australia, Umar averaged 31.22 with the bat. Pakistan played few series against weaker opponents too but Umar’s wasn’t a part of them.
Considering the flat wickets of England along with the profusion of accumulators in the Pakistan squad, Umar becomes a natural for a team which only has Asif Ali to play the finishing role. Former Lahore Qalandars batsman doesn’t seem to be in the plans for the 50-over tournament which is to be played in England and Wales. However, it remains to be seen if his domestic prowess changes the mind-set of the selectors.
