Waleed Ahmed spins Punjab to victory

In a tournament that has been predominantly commanded by the bat, it was a breath of fresh air to see young spinner Waleed Ahmed show up a splendid performance with the ball for Punjab. Once again presented with a flat surface in the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the 26-year-old tamed the Federal Areas batting lineup, to hamper the flow of runs.

At one stage the Federal Areas looked well on their way to score 350 or more, before being outfoxed by the off-spin of Waleed. The right-hander hampered the opposition’s progress and claimed 4 wickets in the process.

Bowling a maiden over in his brilliant spell of 4/59, Waleed was by far the most impressive bowler across both teams. He was later adjudged man of the match alongside teammate and centurion Iftikhar Ahmed, depicting the value of his contribution.
