Shoaib Akhtar still regrets World Cup 2011 semi-final

Shoaib Akhtar had an illustrious career with the Pakistan cricket team. Often the center of controversies off the field, the Pindi express nevertheless was in a league of his own whenever he galloped in to deliver the ball on the 22-yard strip.

A veteran of 163 ODI games for Pakistan, however Akhtar’s end to international cricket will always be rued as a disappointing exit. He featured in the green jersey for the last time in the ICC World Cup 2011 in the group stage encounter versus New Zealand, where he was taken to the cleaners by Ross Taylor.

Later in the tournament, there was a lot of chat of including Akhtar in the playing XI versus India in the all-important semi-final but this was not to be as a young Wahab Riaz played in his place. This sad farewell is still a regrettable moment for Akhtar as the former speedster revealed that he still laments the fact that he could not represent Pakistan against archrivals India.
