Smith urges Australia to manage Warner’s ego

Australian opening batsman David Warner would be making his return to the national side in this year’s World Cup after completing his one-year ban in March. The batsman is off to a blazing start on return to competitive cricket as he has been amassing runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) off late.

Former South African skipper Graeme Smith has advised Australian head coach Justin Langer to keep a check on Warner’s ego as it would not be easy to integrate him into the setup after such a long gap.

“I think where David has been throughout his career is that he's pissed a lot of people off. He's just that type of guy. Guys like Langer and whoever is captaining the side going forward need to ensure they stay on top of that and manage that space and that ego well going forward” he said.

Even though Smith considers Warner a terrific cricketer, he still feels that the batsman would need time to settle in the new set of players.
