The ‘Sultan of Swing’ Wasim Akram had recently highlighted an alarming issue of a lack of focus on dietary habits in light of the fitness concerns of budding cricketers in Pakistan.
A vocal critic of Pakistani cricketers’ fondness for the local dish ‘biryani’, Wasim has repeatedly cast his apprehensions over the callous attitude of the management in monitoring diet of the players.
It seems Wasim’s latest advice over avoiding biryani has fallen on deaf ears as it has been revealed that the Under-19 camp organized under Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) supervision served biryani to the players for two consecutive days.
Simultaneously, it has come about that players participating in the Pakistan Cup have been routinely served their choice of food, which includes barbeque.
This dietary pattern rich in calories is hazardous to the overall development of fitness of the players, and problems of weight-gain surely create problems for maintaining athleticism in the field.
