There has been a renewed debate on the importance of avoiding famous local cuisine for Pakistani cricketers in order to maintain high levels of fitness. The recent advice of Wasim Akram to the younger generation of cricketers of not eating ‘biryani’, which is rich in calories, has attracted quite a bit of attention.
Flowing from this conversation, former captain of the Pakistan women cricket team, Sana Mir has also lent truth to Akram’s suggestions. Speaking to the press, the off-spin all-rounder remarked that evading the intake of high carbs diet is necessary for any sportsperson representing their country on the international level.
She gave her example of not having consumed dishes such as ‘Nihari’, ‘Gol Gappay’ etc. for a long period of time. This perhaps also explains the rise of Pakistan in women’s cricket of late, as they achieved their first ODI series win over West Indies a few months back.
