Ravichandran Ashwin’s future prospects with the national side in the limited overs formats may be bleak, but this has not stopped the quality player from putting in notable performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
On the day that he was left out of the World Cup squad for India, the 32-year-old brought out his A game in the IPL encounter versus Rajasthan Royals. Possessing bad history with the opposing side, owing to the previous meeting between the two sides where Ashwin had ‘Mankaded’ Jos Buttler, this time it was Ashwin’s heroics with both bat and ball which stole the limelight.
Bringing all his experience into great effect, Ashwin pummeled a 4-ball 17 right at the end of the Kings XI Punjab innings that provided impetus to finish on a daunting total. He then followed it up with a superb bowling performance that featured impressive figures of 2/24 in 4 overs. A true captain’s effort from Ashwin, he was later bestowed with the man of the match award.
