BCCI names standbys for the 15-man World Cup squad

After the announcement of the squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 event, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has disclosed the list of three standby cricketers who will be called up in case of an injury to any individual.

Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu have got their dashed hopes reignited as both of them have been named in the standbys for the tournament. In addition to that, express paceman Navdeep Saini gained the trust of selectors to find a place in the list.

Ousting of Pant and Rayudu created a stir on the social media as former cricketers lambasted at the policy of selectors. In fact, the Chennai Super Kings batsman shared his disappointment using his Twitter handle. Therefore, the news came as a sigh of relief for many.

Moreover, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan and Deepak Chahar will travel with the national team as the net bowlers. While the three pacers aren’t the designated standbys but any of them can be roped in if needs be. India would commence their World Cup campaign against South Africa in Southampton.
