Before Pakistan's ICC World Cup 2019 squad was announced, a lot of gossips were patrolling the country regarding the selection of players which was preceded by a fitness test. Pakistan's chief selector Inzimam-ul-Haq named the World Cup squad on 18th April 2019.
Players like Abid Ali, Imad Wasim, and Mohammad Hasnain who did not do well in the fitness test were named in the World Cup squad. On the contrary, Mohammad Rizwan, with the highest points in the fitness test, was not considered for the selection.
Wasim Akram, Pakistan's former captain, also expressed his views on this before the selection. He said, " Selection criteria should be the same for every player either it is fitness or performance".
Inzimam-ul-Haq also highlighted in the press conference that Imad Wasim was favored despite his failure in the fitness test. It implies that the fitness test was not the only criteria of judgment and selection for the mega-event.
