India has recently announced a muscular squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 event which looks all set to steal the thunder of the upcoming 50-over tournament which would be played in England and Wales.
While a decent chunk of cricket pundits believe that spin would play a decisive role in the World Cup, former English wicket-keeper batsman Mike Atherton has spurned the notion as he is of the view that the profusion of grounds would help pitches keep their pace.
However, the 51-year old shared that India possesses a superlative spin attack which comprises of the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Applauding the expertise of the two spinners, the cricketer turned commentator warned all the teams about this spin duo.
Sharing his views on the 10-team competition, the Lancashire born said, “Because of 12 grounds to be used for the mega-event, I don’t think spin will play a big role in this World Cup like it did in Champions Trophy 2017.”
“Having said that, Kuldeep and Chahal will be crucial for India as both of them are different and have the ability to pick wickets even on true batting surfaces,” added by the former captain of England.
