The whole world comes to a standstill whenever traditional rivals Pakistan and India meet in a cricketing encounter. The diplomatic tensions between the two countries for the past few years has meant that such high-profile matches, witnessed by millions of passionate fans, have become infrequent and only an occurrence during ICC tournaments.
This time around, the added layer of a recent political breakdown between the two nations that almost brought them to the brink of armed conflict has made the forthcoming Pakistan-India clash in the World Cup all the more dramatic.
However, Indian coach Ravi Shastri seems to be unfazed by all the developments off the field and has said that he and his boys will treat Pakistan like any other opposition. Dismissing the mounting pressure that comes with an India-Pakistan game, Shastri maintained that his team will be focusing on each match equally.
“When it comes to the World Cup, you treat every team the same. Whether it is England, Bangladesh or Afghanistan, you cannot drop your guard. And there will be no exception with Pakistan,” he said.
