The selection of Yasir Shah in the unfortunate absence of Shadab Khan for the limited overs series against England has raised a lot of eyebrows, given his recent string of poor performances versus Australia. A champion in the Test format, Yasir has not had a similar level of success in ODI cricket, averaging a pathetic 47.39 in 24 games.
Head coach Mickey Arthur, however, is of a different opinion and has asserted his belief in Yasir’s ability to challenge opponents on any surface. “Yasir was the fastest to 200 wickets, albeit in Test cricket. That shows he can bowl. The last two ODIs that we played against Australia, he bowled the best he did in that series,” Mickey said.
“The key for Yasir is to challenge both edges. If Yasir is challenging both [inside and outside] edges, he becomes a different beast,” he added, elaborating that the leggie’s deceptive googly then comes into the equation.
