The calamity and uncertainty that had surrounded the Afghanistan cricket team with the sudden sacking of Asghar Afghan as captain, has thankfully subsided. With the final 15-member Afghan squad announced for the forthcoming World Cup, the ‘Blue Tigers’ will be led by all-rounder Gulbadin Naib in the mega-tournament.
The surprising decision to appoint Gulbadin as skipper of the side, was initially opposed by star players Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan but they have now come to accept the young leader. Showcasing unity among the squad members and no personal enmity with Asghar, Gulbadin posted a special tweet where he can be seen exchanging a handshake with the 31-year-old.
Gulbadin also termed Asghar as his dear friend, indicating that all is well within the confines of dressing room, and no hard feelings persist between the two. It will be interesting to see how Gulbadin fares in his first major assignment so early in his captaincy stint.
