Pakistan’s senior all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez has stated that he is an opener and would like to play as one in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. On the other hand, he also suggested that he would gladly fulfill any role in the batting lineup that would be offered to him.
The middle-order batsman believes that he is not just a one-dimensional player and can adjust to every situation of the game. However, as a consequence of Pakistan’s consistent problems of finding a finisher towards the end of the innings, it has been advocated that he could be more lethal down the order and could provide an opportunity for Sarfaraz Ahmed at the top of the order.
“I am an opener and want to play as one,” he told. “This team management had asked me to play an anchor role at number four because we have new openers who are growing and playing well. I play for the Pakistan team and try to fit in the role which is offered to me,” Hafeez added.
The Professor has better numbers playing in the middle order than as an opener for Pakistan. While batting at batting positions from 3 to 5, he has seven centuries to his name and has scored at an average of 38.95. However, as an opener, he averages just 29.76 and has struck four centuries.
