Soumya Sarkar scores a double century

Soumya Sarkar has become the first Bangladeshi batsman to hit a List A double century, as he scored an unbeaten 208 against Sheik Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier League on Tuesday, April 23.

Soumya, who was named in Bangladesh's squad during the current year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup a week ago, helped Abahani Limited pursue down a target of 318 with nine wickets in hand. His 153-ball innings included 14 fours and 16 sixes, as he shared a first-wicket remain of 312 with Jahurul Islam (100).

The win saw Abahani Limited case the Dhaka Premier League title, with Sarkar, who has three international hundreds to his name, going past 100 for the second successive game – the left-hand batsman hit 106 against Legends of Rugpanj on Sunday.

Few have scaled the double ton mark, and the milestone has been achieved just multiple times in ODI cricket. The most noteworthy List A score ever remains Ali Brown's 150-ball 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.
