Steve Rhodes reflects on Bangladesh’s potential opening combination

Like all the other sides of the tournament, Bangladesh would step into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 event with an aim to lift the glorious title. The recent success of the Bengali tigers has already rung alarm bells for the opposite teams.

Looking at the Bangladeshi squad, it is hard to pick an opening partner with Tamim Iqbal. While Liton Das has shown glimpses of brilliance, Soumya Sarkar also announced his arrival to form by bludgeoning a double century in a domestic game.

This surely has provided a headache to the head coach Steve Rhodes who is looking to finalize Bangladesh’s opening combination for the mega-event to be played in England and Wales from May 30. While the 54-year old refrained from sharing Tamim’s opening partner, he added that he fancies a left-hand and right-hand combination which puts Liton in a good position to be selected.

However, the Yorkshire born stressed that nothing has been finalized yet as he carries immense faith in both the batters. Bangladesh would begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 2.
