Indian head coach Ravi Shastri is expected to leave the coaching job of the national team soon after the World Cup this year as his contract would also expire after the tournament. Different names have been circulating in the media regarding the next head coach of the blue shirts.
Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who is currently coaching the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is also being considered to replace Shastri as he has had a decent couple of years with the franchise and has been involved in Indian cricket circle for some time.
When asked about Ponting being a potential candidate, Sourav Ganguly said that it would be a tough choice for his Delhi fellow coach as he would have to stay away from his family most part of the year.
“That you have to ask him if he is ready to stay away from home for 8-9 months of a year. But yes, if you talk about credentials, there is no doubt he can be a great candidate,” he said.
