India and England have managed to retain their top positions in the Test and ODI team rankings respectively, following the annual update of the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings on Thursday. No team has been successful enough to knock off the two teams off their pitch in the two formats.
The rankings have been updated, with series results from 2015-16 being removed from the calculations, and the outcomes from 2016-17 and 2017-18 being given a weightage of 50%.
England has cemented their stronghold over the no.1 spot ahead of the ICC 2019 World Cup, however, India is not too far behind and are just trailing with 2 points.
Meanwhile, India’s lead in the Test format has also shrunk from 8 points to 2 points with second-placed New Zealand. With the introduction of the Test Championship soon, the dynamics of the rankings could soon take a new shape.
