Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has made history as he has been named as the first non-British president of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and will take up his one-year post in October.
This is a huge honor for Sanga, who saw his nomination being announced at Lord's by the current President, Anthony Wreford. Earlier, he had delivered the 2011 Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture and then in 2012, he was awarded the Honorary Life Membership. He had also joined the World Cricket Committee of MCC and is still a member of the same.
The legendary cricketer received messages of praise and acknowledgment from many cricketers including Pakistan all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez who penned down a special tweet in honor of the Sri Lankan and wished him all the best on his appointment.
