Kolkata Knight Riders’ young star batsman, Shubman Gill stole the limelight with a sublime half-century to help his team to a much-needed win over Kings XI Punjab. A clinical performance from the 19-year-old, he has created a unique record for the most number of fifties by a teenager in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL).
A fantastic display of maturity, Gill showcased great skill in maneuvering the ball through the thinnest of gaps with an abundance of elegant strokes to chase the daunting target of 183. Striking 5 fours and 2 sixes, Gill accumulated a smooth 65 off 49 deliveries and remained unbeaten by the end of the chase.
The highlight of his fine knock was when he smacked India’s premier Test spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 18 runs in the 13th over of the innings. As Kolkata rally around Gill’s stupendous form, this also marks a bright future in store for Indian batting.
