Sussex fell only ten runs short of a record run-chase in the Royal London One-Day Cup game against Hampshire thanks to David Wiese’s fighting 171-run knock. Wiese had proven his batting prowess earlier in the tournament, scoring 93 not out against Surrey.
Wiese dragged the chase till the very end with incredible innings of 171 from 126 balls an innings laced with 14 fours and 9 sixes. Wiese reduced the equation down to 21 off 12 but perished in the penultimate over.
The 171-run knock by South African is now the 2nd highest individual innings in the List A cricket at No.6 position. Kapil Dev’s famous unbeaten 175-run knock against Zimbabwe in the 1983 CWC is the highest List A score while batting at No.6.
