After thumping opposite teams in the tour matches, Pakistan failed to continue their winning momentum in England as the green shirts were defeated by hosts in the one-off T20I game at Cardiff. Pakistan was invited to bat first as tourists produced a fine batting effort to record 173 on the board. While things looked a bit tough for England in the middle overs, skipper Eoin Morgan’s class snatched the victory.
One of the biggest positives of the game for Pakistan came in the form of prowess of the elegant batsman Babar Azam. The 24-year old proved his mettle yet again as he rescued the boys in green from a precarious position.
Losing two quick wickets in form of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq installed a lot of pressure on Pakistan but Babar partnered with Haris Sohail to form a 103-run partnership. Doing so, the Lahore born player smashed his 10th half-century in the shortest format of the game. The sharp-witted batsman bludgeoned 5 fours and 3 sixes to produce a delightful knock at a time when it was needed the most. As a result, the Karachi Kings player top scored for the green shirts with 65 runs.
