South Africa’s promising speedster Anrich Nortje has been rendered extremely unlucky as he is expected to miss out on his maiden appearance in the ICC World Cup after being ruled out of the forthcoming tournament due to a hand injury. The 25-year-old fast-rising pace sensation fractured his thumb while practicing in the nets to his dismay.
He has so far starred in just 4 ODI games, picking up 8 wickets at an average of 18.75 and impressed the selectors so much that he was fast-tracked into the World Cup squad. However, his absence means that medium-pace all-rounder Chris Morris gets a chance to make a return into the national side.
Although Morris last represented South Africa in an ODI last year in February, his vast experience of playing different leagues around the globe including the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) make him a highly capable replacement. Morris’ handy skills with the bat also make him a prized possession for the Proteas.
