It was complete reversal of fortunes in the second ODI between Pakistan and South Africa, as the visitors were at the receiving end of a thumping defeat this time around. Batting first, Pakistan Women began sedately preserving wickets for the end overs before a fiery spell of pace bowling from Masabata Klaas left the batting lineup in tatters.
From 145/5 to 147 all out, Pakistan were blown away by Klaas’ heroics with the ball as she became the 10th female bowler in history to register a hat-trick in ODI cricket. She stole the spotlight with her nagging line and length, outsmarting Aliya Riaz, Umaima Sohail and Sidra Ameen in successive deliveries.
The 28-year-old’s game-changing spell won her the player of the match award, following South Africa’s canter to the paltry target. This result now levels the series, going into the final ODI.
