English opening batsman Alex Hales was deselected from the World Cup squad after he was banned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for recreational drug usage. The whole episode has left the batsman in utter disbelief and regret as he was about to participate in the 2nd World Cup of his career.
However, Hales’ snubbing has left a vacant spot in the squad and fast bowler Jofra Archer is the strongest candidate among the pool of players available. England pacer Liam Plunkett has said that Archer would only make the World Cup squad better.
“He's obviously a class act. He showed today, he's rocked up and bowled really nicely with pace and smashed the right good areas, picked up a wicket in the first few overs, beating the left-hander on the outside edge. With him in your squad, you're going to be a better team,” he said.
